Introduction The Bible contains many things that may appear strange to us today. We are mostly unfamiliar with the languages, customs, history and religions in biblical times whereas the Reformers and Puritan divines were well taught in the classics. This included the classical languages spoken in biblical times (Latin, Greek and Hebrew), the writings of classical authors and the ancient history of the ancient empires of Rome, Babylon and Persia. Through the grace of God this learning was sanctified. They understood the significance of the language used by Paul in 2 Thes 2 and John in Revelation. They could see that Babylon, spoken of in the book Revelation, represents the Church of Rome. This gave them a clear warning to flee from superstition based on ancient religions. They strove for purity in the Church of Christ that is sadly lacking today. The most faithful translations into English are unable to convey the full meaning of the original Hebrew and Greek words in some places, viz. the names given to people, places and false gods. When studying the scriptures one therefore needs to try to get as close to what was written in the original languages, historical scenarios and not to quote single scriptures out of context. We'll see that false worship and idolatry ultimately came from Babylon. Obviously, we need to start from the creation in Genesis to lay a proper foundation for our study. Creation and the Fall of Man The accounts of creation, the fall of man and the birth of nations are fundamental to the rest of the Bible. If a building's foundation is undermined, the building will fall. Therefore, the enemies of truth think that by undermining the book of Genesis, the Bible will fall. There are also fundamental truths in Genesis that strike at the very heart of all the false worship the devil has inspired. For that reason Genesis is so unpopular with believers of falsehood. All Three persons of Elohim [body, soul & spirit] took part in creation, viz. "The spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters." Then we read for each creative act of God, "and God said"; this speaks of the Word, the Son of God. Paul says of the Son:
The Lord created not only the world, but also the sun moon and stars. However, there is nothing to indicate that they represent God in any way. The Bible expressly forbids any representation of God:
The world was created perfect. Adam & Eve were created sinless, in harmony with God their Creator. However, they were tempted by the Devil, in the form of a serpent, to eat of the tree of knowledge. The Devil's temptation was, "ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil." This lead to God cursing the snake and revealing that Messiah Jesus will be his ultimate undoing:
Babylonian Perversion of Genesis False religions of Babylon are based on perverted and accounts of Genesis. Viz. to blasphemously regard the devil as the giver of light and the illuminator of mankind, worshiping him as God!
Despite the fearful flood and destruction of the world, which showed the
judgments of God, man soon fell away from the truth. Noah was a preacher
of righteousnous, but his son Ham was profane. The gracious promise of a
Savior, the Messiah, was perverted. Men soon claimed that the promised Seed
had come - in the form of Nimrod the founder of Babylon. From the death and
supposed reincarnation of Nimrod as the sun god the Babylonian Mysteries
were born. These Mysteries have given rise to false worship throughout the
history of the world, the most important of which being via the Church of
Rome, the true successor to the Mysteries. |
